Cafe Metro
Lexington Avenue & 46th St.
NYC

Caf Metro is a New York City breakfast and lunch take-out/eat-in business. Lexington Avenue and 46th Street was the first location that Fenimore Rosenberg Kolb designed, and it was here they established a strategy and a design vocabulary that is carried through all subsequent locations.

General design precepts in every Caf Metro are that cooking, equipment and food activity is kept along the interior walls, with floor-to-ceiling window-wall at the street. The air and light reinforces the idea of an open, healthy environment. A curvilinear counter leads customers along a path of various kinds of fresh food sandwiches, tossed salads, hot foods, pizza and pastas.

Issues such as lighting take on a new importance when the message is to underscore cleanliness and freshness.
